Perinatal depression is thought to have adverse effects on child development but there is limited causal evidence of sustained impacts of treatment of maternal depression on children. We followed up the children who were in utero during a randomized control trial of maternal depression and assessed their cognitive and socio-emotional development. Although the trial had first order effects on mother’s mood status and relevant maternal behaviours, we find limited effects on child outcomes at age seven.
