Montek Singh Ahluwalia, a Blavatnik School of Government Distinguished Practitioner, will give a public lecture on Wednesday 6 March 2013 at the University of Oxford's Examination Schools. The lecture, entitled 'India's Challenges Ahead,' will focus on the pressing economic issues facing India today, and how to ensure continued growth in uncertain times.
Mr Ahluwalia is currently Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission in the Government of India. He previously served in several positions in the Indian Government, including Finance Secretary, Member of the Planning Commission, and he has also served in international financial institutions. Between 2001 and 2004 he was the first Director of the Independent Evaluation Office of the IMF.
He was a Rhodes Scholar at Magdalen College and then at St. Antony’s, and has an M.A. and M.Phil from Oxford. He was conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law in 2010, and in 2011 he was awarded the prestigious 'Padma Vibhushan' by the President of India in 2011, in recognition for his service to the nation.
