The next course will run from 23 April to 15 June 2018.
Since 2015, this annual professional development programme has welcomed civil servants from the Hong Kong Government to join the Blavatnik School of Government as ‘Hong Kong Fellows’. They follow an intensive eight-week programme that has been tailored to help them reach the next level of leadership.
From their time spent at the Blavatnik School of Government, Fellows will come away with necessary skills to recognise and effectively analyse critical issues in public sector administration, particularly from a global perspective.
They will gain valuable insights, skills and the ability to use critical thinking to overcome challenges they face in their home as civil servants. Ultimately, they will learn to shape the environment around them to create maximum impact.
This programme is firmly rooted in the Oxford tradition of tutorial learning, supplemented by intensive teaching by world-class academics at the Blavatnik School of Government. The programme also contains a core research element, skills building workshops, and the chance to hear from (and engage with) experienced global leaders who visit the School.
Key to their overall success, Fellows receive one-to-one mentorship to develop their personal leadership objectives.
The School is truly a collaborative learning environment where Fellows can learn from, and network with, other senior professionals.
Life in Oxford and beyond
In addition to their studies, Fellows will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the history and traditions of Oxford, the oldest university in the English-speaking world. Here in the ‘city of dreaming spires’ they will enter an oasis of learning, where the world’s greatest leaders and thinkers have studied for over 800 years.
Additional cultural experience is also a key part of the programme. The Fellows will visit UK government bodies, local authorities, scientific and cultural bodies to gain a more rounded understanding of successful private and public organisations, and to leverage the cultural opportunities of the United Kingdom.
The Hong Kong Officer Professional Development Programme consists of the following core components:
- Disciplinary Analytics in Government
- Cutting Edge Research on the Challenges of Government
- International Relations and Public Policy
- Oxford-style tutorials for intense personalised teaching
- Professional Development & Mentorship
- Networking opportunities
