We invite you to submit a paper to present, or express interest in attending, the 2024 What Works Hub for Global Education Annual Conference. The 2024 Annual Conference will take place on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 September 2024, at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
The What Works Hub for Global Education is an international partnership studying how to implement education reforms at scale, with the ultimate goal of increasing literacy, numeracy and other key skills in low- and middle-income countries. The conference aims to convene leading academics, government stakeholders, implementation science experts, and representatives from grassroots organisations to discuss how to implement education reforms at scale.
This inaugural conference will feature a variety of invited sessions, ranging from presentations of prior and proposed research to policy-focused panel discussions. Confirmed speakers include: Rukmini Banerji (Pratham, CEO), Luis Benveniste (World Bank, Global Director, Education), Dean Karlan (Northwestern, Professor; IPA, Founder; USAID, Chief Economist), Dzingai Mutumbuka (former Minister of Education, Zimbabwe), Benjamin Piper (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Director, Global Education) and Judith Herbertson (FCDO, Head of Girls' Education). We plan to include several contributed sessions and welcome submissions of papers (or extended abstracts) in any area relating to education evidence translation and implementation science. Papers in the following areas are particularly welcome:
- at-scale evaluation
- adaptive testing and iteration on scalable models
- implementation within government systems (including bureaucratic delivery and regulation)
- generating and synthesizing evidence across contexts
- evidence take-up and policymaker/practitioner decision-making
Submissions should reach us by Friday 3 May 2024. Please email your paper or extended abstract to wwhge@bsg.ox.ac.uk. Authors of accepted submissions will be notified no later than 24 May 2024.
To foster interaction, we encourage all speakers at the conference to attend in person. Online presentation will be possible but we would like to keep this as an option for last-minute logistical challenges only. The What Works Hub for Global Education has a limited budget to assist with travel and accommodation expenses for speakers. Details will be provided in the confirmation email in late May.
Expressions of interest to attend the conference in person or online are welcome from now up to one week before the conference. Please register your interest here.
Please feel free to circulate this Call for Papers to colleagues, researchers, partners and other interested parties.
