An update from the Admissions control room

BSG Admissions Team
It’s almost a month since the deadline for applications to BSG, so we thought we’d give you a quick update.
It has been a busy month for our Admissions team (pictured here) – the central Graduate Admissions and Funding team has been collating thousands of applications for all the graduate courses at the University of Oxford, and they’ve been sending the complete applications to us.

Since receiving the first applications, the BSG Admissions team has kick-started our very thorough academic assessment process. This consists of ensuring applications are complete with all the documents required (for example, academic references and English language certification) and coordinating a series of weekly meetings with academic assessors. During the meetings, assessors (members of BSG faculty and associates) discuss the applications by looking at each applicant’s background, supporting statement and written work. The process lasts until the end of March, when the decision on who will receive an offer is made during the final admissions meeting.

There are still a few weeks to go until the assessments are complete, so here are a few things to remember while you wait for news of an offer:

February and March are the busiest months for the Admissions Team. They are completing the academic assessments for hundreds of applications and are working long hours, so please bear with them (and don’t worry) if they don’t respond to emails immediately!

We’ll hold SOME interviews via Skype, but we won’t interview everyone. If you are invited to interview you’ll receive an email by early March, but please remember that not all applicants are invited to interview so you might not receive that email and it will still be fine.

We aim to make a final decision by the end of March. We will contact all applicants via email, and this may take several working days, so once again don’t worry if you don’t hear from us immediately.

One more thing to remember is related to funding – while decisions can vary depending on what funding you have applied or are eligible for (between April and June for University of Oxford related funding, and between May and June for BSG financial support decisions), we’ve learnt over the last few years that it’s important to keep searching and applying for funding right up until the course starts. So while you wait, read our previous blog on funding and check if there’s anything extra you can do to help secure the support you need to come here!

It seems that once again this year the quality and range of applications is really impressive, and we are all looking forward to finding out who we will welcome into our new home in Oxford next September.
