Emily Jones, Associate Professor of Public Policy, gave evidence to Parliament’s Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee on 10 May 2023. The Committee is conducting an inquiry into how treaties and other international arrangements could be effectively scrutinised in the UK, now that the UK has left the EU, and called on Emily because of her expertise on trade deals and treaties. Emily spoke to the inadequacy of current scrutiny, noting the vast increase over the last century of the complexity, scope and length of trade treaties, and shared recommendations on how to improve scrutiny.
