Thu Thu is a Pulitzer prize winning Myanmar journalist and correspondent at Reuters. Since the military coup in February 2021, Thu Thu has continued reporting from Thailand. Since the coup, a new generation of young citizen journalists has been inspired to report on atrocities currently being committed by the military. While continuing her reporting as a Reuters correspondent, Thu Thu volunteered as a board member and mentor for organisations training and supporting local journalists at this time. She wants to increase the work she is doing in support of this new generation of emerging young journalists.
In 2023 Thu Thu was a journalist fellow at the University of Oxford’s Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (RISJ), focusing her research on the role of citizen journalists in post-coup Myanmar. In the same year she published a chapter on ‘Tracing War Criminals’ in the Global Investigative Journalism Network’s book, Investigating War Crimes.
Thu Thu is an Oxford University College - Burma scholar.
