biography

Shoichiro is a public policy professional working for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in Japan.

The unprecedented disaster in 2011 in Fukushima, Shoichiro's hometown, sparked his interest in how society could be resilient enough to address serious hazards. After experiences of law amendment at METI, Shoichiro was seconded to the Reconstruction Agency, living in Fukushima where he was responsible for rulemaking and coordination with stakeholders for making nuclear disaster-stricken areas revitalised and more resilient. At Oxford, Shoichiro is excited to pursue the goal to enhance socioeconomic resilience against crises such as natural disasters and environmental issues. Specifically, he looks forward to focusing on crisis management capabilities of government, effective risk communication, and economic strategy in the context of resilience.

He holds a Bachelors Degree in Law from the University of Tokyo.
