biography

Anne-Marie Houde is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government.

Anne-Marie’s research is at the intersection of emotion research in International Relations, political psychology, and EU studies. She is mainly interested in the role of emotions in politics and policymaking. At the micro-level, her PhD thesis uses the growing literature on emotions in International Relations to explore the question of citizens’ perspectives on further European (dis)integration and the future of the European Union after Brexit, helping academics and policymakers make sense of what people want for the EU. At the macro level, Anne-Marie is also interested in political discourses and justifications of policymaking, notably when intersecting with the psychological processes underlying them. She has notably contributed to diverse projects on (emotional) politicisation and narratives surrounding crises.

During her time as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Anne-Marie will be working on a book manuscript on everyday emotions about the European Union. She will also expand her research by working on a new comparative project which will look at the resonance of the politicised emotional narratives surrounding international organisations like the EU, the UN, and NATO, and how they impact these organisations’ perceived legitimacy.

Prior to joining the School and the University of Oxford, Anne-Marie did her PhD in Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick. She also holds an MSc in Political Science from the University of Montreal and a BA in Economics and Politics from Laval University.
