Blavatnik School of Government

An extended interview with the political theorist who has gained international attention for his argument that liberal democracy is in grave danger.

Yascha MounkNgaire Woods, Dean of the Blavatnik School at Oxford, speaks to Harvard scholar Yascha Mounk. He says that across a wide sample of countries in North America and Western Europe, citizens of mature democracies have become markedly less satisfied with government and surprisingly open to nondemocratic alternatives – including dictatorship. "A serious democratic disconnect has emerged. If it widens even further, it may begin to challenge the stability of seemingly consolidated democracies" he says.

This event will be recorded for BBC Radio 4 and broadcast at 20:30 Monday 17 July and 21:30 Sunday 23 July as part of BBC Analysis. It will also be available online.

The event is free and open to all.
