We are pleased to announce that our annual Challenges of Government Conference will take place in Oxford on 11-12 December 2014.

Successfully pioneered in 2011, the conference has become a flagship event for the Blavatnik School of Government. It brings together leaders in business, government and civil society who can share state-of-the-art thinking and innovations in policy from all over the world.

The theme this year, "Sustainable cities, successful citizens," tackles the impact of rapid urbanisation across the world, the aspirations and needs of citizens, and the resulting synergies and conflicts. The event brings together a global, multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral audience for intellectual exchange and knowledge sharing.

Programme and speaker details will be announced over the coming months; and registration is expected to open to the public in the autumn.

Last year's conference, on the topic of "People Power Politics," brought together over 240 people from all over the world and different sectors of society to explore the rise in citizens' expectations and popular activism, and their risks and limits for governments and societies. Browse the blogs, videos and reports from our last Challenges of Government Conference on "People Power Politics" to see what there will be to look forward to this year.

Update: The conference is now titled 'Flourishing cities', the latest information on the conference is available here on the conference information pages.
