The promise of Trump: A balanced perspective

Video

Intrigue, uncertainty, hope, and fear all surround the Trump presidency, not just because the populace is polarised, but also because Trump’s ascension to the presidency is unprecedented in many ways. Professor S.P. Kothari offers his perspective on the basis for hope even in respect of such controversial areas as immigration, trade, global security, taxes, and healthcare. Trump’s own record, his appointments, and the checks-and-balances inherent in the US system all point towards less fear and more hope, at least relative to expectations prior to the election.

S.P. Kothari is the Gordon Y. Billard Professor of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A scholar of financial markets and market efficiency, Professor Kothari has previously served as global head of equity research for Barclays Global Investors (BGI), responsible for research supporting a $100 billion asset portfolio. He has also served as deputy dean and head of the department of economics, finance, and accounting at MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
