The former President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, in conversation with the Director of the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative, Sabina Alkire. The Blavatnik School’s Dean, Professor Ngaire Woods, moderates the discussion.

Former President Santos is a Visiting Professor of the Oxford Department of International Development. This event will be held in collaboration with the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative, an economic research and policy centre within the Oxford Department of International Development.

About the speaker

Juan Manuel Santos served as President of Colombia for two terms, between 2010 and 2018. During his presidency, he worked to establish a peace process with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, a guerrilla movement active since the 1960s. As a result of his persistent efforts to achieve an end to the armed conflict, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2016.
