I am Hamish from Melbourne, Australia. I originally trained as an anthropologist and after studying in Cape Town for a year, I wrote my thesis comparing the social roles of white people in Australia and South Africa. Last year I completed an MSc in Environmental Change and Management at Oxford, focussing on the sustainable harvesting of non-renewable natural resources. Before coming to Oxford I was working in consulting at Boston Consulting Group. I have also worked as a journalist at COP20 in Lima and COP21 in Paris reporting on the UN climate negotiations. My key policy interest is in sustainable development: how policy can help improve living standards, whilst also delivering clean energy systems, thriving urban environments, efficient transport options, and ensure the protection of the ecosystems upon which all economic activity ultimately depends.
