Gwyn Bevan

Visiting Professor 2015-2018

Gwyn Bevan is Professor of Policy Analysis and, from 2011 to 2013 was head of the Department of Management, at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has worked as an academic at Warwick Business School and St Thomas' Hospital and Bristol Medical Schools. He has also worked in industry, consulting, the Treasury, and for the Commission for Health Improvement (2001 to 2003), where he was Director of the Office for Information on Healthcare Performance. His current research includes studies of outcomes of the natural experiment of different policies in UK countries for the NHS and schools following devolution; and the SyMPOSE (Systems Modelling for Performance Optimisation and Service Equity) project funded by the Health Foundation, which is a programme of collaborative research that aims to reduce expenditure on health care with least harm to the health of populations. He is a member of the Department of Health’s two advisory committees on resource allocation. With David Goodman (Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice) he has developed the Wennberg International Collaborative, which is a community of scholars who aim to understand how to reduce unwarranted variations in medical practice.
