Grace Young

Website Editor and Communications Lead (GO Lab)

Grace is the Website Editor and Communications Lead for the Government Outcomes Lab (GO Lab). She ensures that GO Lab's academic research is accessible to a general audience, develops content to share with practitioners, and curates the GO Lab website and external communications.

She has a range of experience in the academic and non-profit sector. She studied Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick with an integrated year at the University of California, Berkeley. She has also completed an MA in Post-war Recovery Studies at the University of York where she developed a strong interest in public policy and post war reconstruction, particularly focusing on mental health. She spent several months working at the National Mental Health Programme in Lebanon, working alongside WHO and UNHCR to produce policy papers on substance abuse and prison reform. Her dissertation explored the mental health of Syrian refugees in Lebanon with a focus on culture and context. She worked closely with practitioners in the field and provided policy recommendations to support those in crisis.

Outside of academia, Grace managed communications for an educational social enterprise and led a national service for people with dementia and other long term health conditions, before becoming Communications Manager for the national charity, Guideposts. She is particularly interested in how clear and focused communications, local engagement and collaboration can bring about social change.

Grace is also a 500 hour certified yoga teacher and teaches regularly in Oxford. She has specialist training in teaching yoga for mental health and trauma informed yoga for refugees. She has led workshops for Together Women Project, to support women who have been in prison, and has supported the RNIB by teaching those with visual impairments.
