biography

Afzal Abdul Rahim is a Malaysian technology entrepreneur who currently serves as Commander-in-Chief of TIME dotCom, a pan-ASEAN telecoms and Internet infrastructure operator.

With investments and operations spanning data centres, terrestrial fixed networks, submarine cables and cloud computing, the group has become the provider of choice for mission-critical services, providing connectivity to businesses and operators across the region, supported by more than 3,000 employees.

TIME also operates Malaysia's fastest home fibre broadband service which has set the bar for both consistency and value.
Having been involved in the industry for most of his career, Afzal founded the non-profit Malaysian Internet Exchange (MyIX) in 2006 which has been a major catalyst of growth in the industry as well as anchoring the country as a destination for internet infrastructure investments.

Outside of the sector, he has served as the Founding Chair of Endeavor Malaysia, a non-profit entrepreneur support organisation focusing on mentoring the next generation of business owners, as well as Authority Member and Chair of the Strategic Transformation Committee of the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

More recently, Afzal and his team led the Telco industry response to the pandemic by architecting and operating a virtualised national monitoring platform, allowing frontliners to focus on patients needing the most amount of care.

He currently serves as an Independent Board Member of CIMB, a leading regional Banking Group and is a member of the University of Sussex Asia Advisory Board – his alma mater – where he earned a BEng in Mechatronics Engineering.

Afzal is also a licensed commercial pilot and holds several fixed-wing type ratings.
