David Newman
David started work as the School's learning technologist in November 2011. He is finding ways to help our Masters of Public Policy students turn into excellent public policy practitioners, through innovative use of technology in learning and teaching. He will be advising both students and academic staff on ways to make learning effective, deep and fun, as they solve public policy problems.
David started out doing a BA in Natural Sciences at Cambridge, and has made his way to Oxford via Edinburgh and Mauritius (Ph.D. in Appropriate Technology), Mozambique and Kenya, Kingston (M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence) and Queen's University Belfast, where he won a teaching award for his integration of computer-based and face-to-face learning.
He has worked on energy-efficient charcoal stoves, how community groups use the Internet, measuring critical thinking in on-line learning, consensus e-democracy, e-consultation and youth participation in policy-making, and on a computer game to develop decision-makers' skills in estimating uncertainty.
